Are you familiar with the Kendall Community Center?

Located at 609 N. Eldridge, Houston, Texas  77079 ( if you are driving there from Westside, it is just before you reach Memorial Drive.)

The Belle Sherman Kendall Community Center and Library, is open to all Houston residents, year round, with extended hours in the summer.  Closed on Sunday.

From the website: http://ww.houstontx.gov/parks/communitycenters/cc-kendall.html

Community Centers are great places to host special gatherings, such as wedding receptions, family reunions and parties for a nominal rental fee. Not all facilities are designed to accommodate all events, so please contact each individual facility to ensure that facility can accommodate your event. Deposits are required and are refundable.

Community center rental reservation forms must be completed and payments must be received in the Permits Office the earlier of 10 days after the rental reservation is completed or at least 7 days before the scheduled event date. This includes concessionaires, HPARD co-sponsored events, etc.

If security is required, community center rental reservation forms and payment must be received in the Permits Office a minimum of 14 days prior to the scheduled event, which includes private functions, birthday parties, showers, weddings, family reunions, family gatherings, meetings, special events, etc.

The Community Center is currently managed by Westside High School, Class of ’07, graduate Jorge Sanchez.  During his time as a proud WHS Wolf, Jorge was a 4 year member of Inertia Dance Company.  Following graduation, he began teaching at Pin Oak Middle School, in an experimental program that placed young dancers into schools as hip hop dance instructors.  As he worked his way through college, Jorge stayed at Pin Oak for 7 years, creating an award winning hip hop dance program.  Seeking greater outreach potential, Jorge moved on to became the Kendal Community Center’s Manager, and director.

Of interest to our wolves, for sure, Jorge would like us to know that free classes are currently being offered at the center.  Kendall Yoga holds classes every Thursday and Saturday.  And coming up on April 22nd, a special Self Defense class will be offered FREE OF CHARGE!  Registration starts at 12:30, and the class runs from 1:00 – 2:00.

If you would like information about YOGA or SELF-DEFENSE, TAI CHI, and any other services offered contact:

[email protected] or call 832.393.1897.  Tell Mr. Sanchez that you are a Westside Wolf, he loves to talk about his alma mater!
