Cheer takes Nationals bid

Under new direction for the 2019-20 season, Westside’s Cheer Team has jumped into the competition season with full force.  Competing for the first time in three year, this determined group earned a bid to a National Contest on their first try.  Going up against the big schools at the UCA Regional Contest, held at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. our ladies competed strong, finishing second in their category, and earning a bid to the National event in Orlando, Florida.

The award winning routine was a mix of spirit cheers and chants, stunts, and the iconic sideline dance to our Wolves Fight Song. After taking a few practice run throughs, the team waited their turn by staying focused and getting hype with their rocking circle. Director, Ms. Simone Evans kept the team on point with brief notes and encouraging feedback.

Once the team hit the floor they were ready.  The gym was full, the crowd chanted with them during their routine, their stunts were on point, and their dance got everybody clapping along.  “It was exciting and I felt proud of my team for getting that accomplishment.” Rachel Wright, a junior, said about their awards.

Next up will be a competition in December.
