Signing Day

Sharon Roberts, Adviser

Dean Pliskin describes November 6th as one of his best day’s working at Westside High School.  Because on this day he was able to see 5 of his graduating seniors sign their letters of intent to play ball in college.  It was a proud day as family, friends, coaches and faculty celebrated this momentous event.

Brandt Belk will be attending Rice University.  Mitchell Casky, McLennan Community College, Christian Long is going to Wake Forest University, and Quincy McAfee is out to California to attend Pepperdine University.  From softball Mary Alex Krosby, who was also featured as a KPRC Athlete of the Week last spring, will be attending Southwestern University in Georgetown.

“They are all outstanding, with exceptional character”, Westside’s Head Baseball Coach described.  He also acknowledged that when the Major League Draft occurs in the spring of 2016, we  may be hosting another type of signing day, but he left the audience guessing as to who he thought might be getting the call.

Craig Plisken, the dean for all 5 students, was busting with pride.  He remarked that they could have all had their pick of colleges with their outstanding academic records, so it was truly special to be able to send them off to top universities to continue playing a sport that they love.

Following remarks from Principal Stewart, each player/student signed their treasured letter, posed for pictures and enjoyed a beautiful cake with their families.

It was a special day for Westside’s Baseball and Softball programs.
