Traditions around Westside are alive and kicking. Literally kicking as three of the most active teams on campus prepare for their annual spring auditions to place their squads for the 2022-23 school year.  Westside Cheerleading try-outs are underway this week, while Pride Dance Team, Inertia Dance Company are holding their try-outs in the next couple of weeks.

Pride Dance Team auditions for the 2022-23 school year are March 29 – April 1. Open to 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grade students with a strong skill set for jazz, pom, and kick dance technique.  Prior dance experience and training is a must as the example skills in the try-out routine will include: Double pirouette, A la seconds, leaps, truning centers, calypso, high kicks, and full right and left splits. Dancers will learn the routine during after school sessions, held in the Westside gym. Teacher recommendations are required. Passing all classes is also recommended.

Pride Dance Team is a four season activity. New team members will begin with a performance in the annual Pride Spring Show. Summer camps and drill practice prepares for fall football season. Which leads into the busy winter competition season. Inertia Dance Company’s in person try-outs will be held April 25 – 28. With specific days for girls and boys training and auditons. On the first day of the process, dancers will learn choreography, followed by a review day on April 26th. To audtion you will specifically need:  Headshot/dance shot, copy of most recent report card, letter of recommendation, and completed application.  Inertia is a coed team, with a full year of activities beginning in August. The try-out packet has an extensive list of “Things to Consider” for each applicant to carefully read through.  Inertia is a huge commitment, and each dancer should be fully aware of the requirements to be on this team.
