“The Two Shutter Birds,” was created in 2012 by Westside physics teacher Dr. Cunningham and his wife Elisa Lewis. With the goal of unifying photography and personal experience ,as well as knowledge, to tell a story or even a contradictory opinion about human nature. To enrich its audience capacity to appreciate beyond the beauty of art, and to analyze those details that make it so unique. When I first visited twoshutterbirds.com I discovered more than aesthetic pictures of birds and brilliant quotes, it is more about “personal growth” and “improvement,” these words were highlighted by Dr. Cunningham when asked about the purpose of the website.
As I read some of the articles that are displayed on the website, I notice that they had a different air, for what is traditionally expected. Many websites publish an article and add a picture to represent the information proportionated with it, but the twoshutterbirds take the images and write about the experience behind it. Almost always it starts with a quote that represents the point of view of certain topics that are carefully associated with the nature of the picture. The quality of the photos are amazing, the colors are vivid and the backgrounds are exquisite, although the equipment that is use now is professional, it wasn’t always like this, when I interviewed Dr. Cunningham he told me that bird watching was the root of the website and that they bought some non-expensive cameras that served as a tool to help them identify the bird and later on do research about their findings. As the years went by, better cameras were obtained in order to present a product with a higher quality for their viewers.
What makes this website so engaging is the deep connection that the authors have with those images. Their passion take the form of photos of birds , that later on develop into words that captures the moment , the idea, the annex of those quotes and become a work of art all together . The moment you open the twosutterbirds in search of that new post , your mind opens to a world that goes beyond concepts and pictures , but into dedication and devotion for something so beautiful as it is nature .
Something that you are always going to hear Dr. Cunningham say is:
“Get out there and photograph some birds”
Place do not hesitate to check this website out, is tremendous all you can learn and enjoy reading and observing the beautiful art this artist have created.
