Expanding Fashion – “The Kanye West Fashion Movement”

Fashion takes its new trend to a slightly different course. It’s no more Chic fashion, instead it’s going to a more street urban fashion trend. From fancy and colorful, to very simple and neutral colored clothing wear, designers already made their trend choice but there are debates from the people whether or not this is fashion.

Kanye West was one of the first to introduce this new trend with his clothing line, “Yeezy Season 1” in October of last year. His ideas as a designer were different from the rest. He wanted something “Simple” and came up with the one colored design. And some of his ideas came from military outerwear and it wasn’t just the color people were completely shocked about; it was the style and structure of the clothing.

“Honestly I’ll actually feel poor wearing this expensive item with holes torn through because I can find a rag on the streets that looks very similar to it,” said Gracie Romero, 11th grade student.

There wasn’t really a big issue about the clothing itself since it represented as an “art”. Most of the complaints were coming from the prices for the clothing. For example, a popular item is the purposely damaged t-shirt that costs nearly two grand! “No one with average income would want to spend half their money on a thousand dollar shirt that is purposely damaged,” said Silvia Vargas, a common working person.

These complaints arose debates and theories to which Kanye West clothing line is actually meant for famous people that can appropriately afford it.  Many of them like Rihanna, Rita Ora, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner were already seen wearing them concluding that they actually like the outfits. A lot of them did not question the style nor the price, like it seems normal to them. Whereas an everyday person would commonly say that it’s pretty outrages, but there is no actual evidence that the clothing line is meant for the well-known.                         Photo courtesy of Splash News

Although there are many questions about the pricing, many designers, like Olivier Rousteing, support his clothing line as it represents a new art format. “We [designers] all have to stick together.” Olivier says. Kanyes clothing line was still an art and since he gained much support through designers, he was able to continue his work and make “Yeezy Season 2″ that will be out by Spring of this year.

Kanye West has really shifted the fashion trend that is making many people talk about it. Whether the question is “is this fashion?” or “why is it so expensive?”, the Yeezy Clothing line is selling. And it’s selling fast. Believe it or not, the words “sold out” is used very frequently. There is no question to doubt if his clothing line is successful, thus creating The Kanye West Fashion Movement.
