Blood Sugar Sex Magic

Blood Sugar Sex Magic

The Red Hot Chili Peppers go down as one of the most famous funk/punk rock bands in history. Their music has changed people all over the world. Blood Sugar Sex Magic in my opinion has the other albums beat in terms of lyrics and overall music. Now Stadium Arcadium is very close to Blood Sugar Sex Magic but Blood Sugar Sex Magic just has those sounds that define the band as a whole.

For example with songs like Funky Monks and Mellowship Slinky in B Major have those sounds that are just so funky. With John Frusciante’s Hendrix inspired playing and to complement him is Michael “Flea” Balzary on bass just funking it out while still playing in perfect sync with John. On their songs Apache Rose Peacock and The Righteous and The Wicked they have a more slower funk sound but still maintain the nice beat thanks to their drummer Chad Smith who can keep up with their aggressive, yet calm playing. Now they can get really slow and calming, like in their songs I Could Have Lied and in the very famous Under The Bridge. Anthony Keidis’s vocals can adapt to their playing but still stands out because of his rap/rock/calm tone that he can just switch out whenever.

The Record was created in a mansion where apparently The Beatles first took LSD and many more inappropriate things happened but it gave them that raw sound and setting to make this incredible record. They all have a bond where they all act like brothers which anyone can respect. Mellowship actually means a group of friends that call themselves brothers. The way they view music and life is just so chill and fascinating and that I thinks is one of the many ways they created this record. Overall this record is well worth the time to listen to along with all of their other records but if you want to get into them I would recommend listening to Blood Sugar Sex Magic first to really hear the definition of the Chili Peppers.
