In Sugarland, TX, a law banning the use of handheld devices while driving was recently implemented. The law was set in place March 20th and affects anyone who operates a vehicle in Sugarland. This law was applied to make Sugarland a safer place for drivers, as the use of handheld devices during driving is one of the primary causes of accidents, injuries, and fatalities.

The law is aimed at everyone in the Sugarland area, however it most impacts teenagers. As avid users of handheld devices, adolescents are more prone to accidents than that of adults.
“In my age group, handheld devices while driving is a big distraction and causes around 500,000 accidents a year. Distracted driving is more than likely the cause behind all of these accidents.” Junior Bryn Mccardle said.
It is vital that people, both young and old, have absolutely no unnecessary distractions that cause preventable incidents. The law is not only a significant minimizer for accidents, but also allows drivers to feel the security needed; specifically those who are newly behind-the-wheel.
“The law makes me feel a lot safer. I feel that it should be implemented in other Texas cities as it might very well decrease the amount of accidents that occur every single day. As a teenager who is new to driving, I feel that this law will ultimately decrease my nerves while driving.” Junior Detola Ahmed said.
Overall, the law in Sugarland allows people to feel safer on the roads. Since Texas is a state in which most people drive to get around, security is an issue that can be solved by a law such as this one
