El Gato Coffeehouse

El Gato Coffeehouse is exactly what it’s called. And for those who are confused, it’s a cat café.

It’s not really a café for cats, it’s a café for people to meet cats. People can come in and enjoy a cup of coffee and casually hang out with each other, a good book, and well… cats. The the main goal for the El Gato Coffeehouse is to increase adoption awareness and opportunities for Houston’s  cat population. Customers can come to the coffeehouse to meet their future forever feline friend.  Working with the Houston Humane Society, El Gato cats are all adoptable.  They have been neutered, and vet checked.

El Gato will open in their permanent location in the Houston Heights this spring.  Until that time, the nomadic society hosts events at different locations.  Next up on January 28th,  join in at the Houston Humane Society for Cat Yoga. Cat Yoga?  Yes, local yogi’s will conduct 2 all levels classes where you can communicate with your inner peace, and adoptable cats.  The first class is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the family class at 1:00 pm.  Prior to the class, there will be a social hour, where you can interact with the cats.

The permanent location will be complete for any cat. As noted on their website, http://www.elgatocoffeehouse.com/

“The cat lounge will be tailored to their needs allowing plenty of upward mobility and paths to run and jump.”

Cafe guests will be able to interact with the cats, and to provide them with play, and the one thing all shelter cats need, love and care.  The atmosphere will be calming for all concerned.

So if you are a fan of cats, and coffee.  Keep a lookout for El Gato Coffeehouse.  And if possible, take the opportunity to support the cause.
