Gaining an audience of more than 14 million people during the first 35 days of being on Netflix, Stranger Things is a show you don’t want to miss out on. The authentic 80’s aura that the show brings is largely due to its music composers, Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein. After watching the first few episodes, the soundtrack had already been my favorite part of the show. I noticed that the soundtrack combined elements of synth, new wave, and classic rock to achieve the perfect atmosphere for the new series. Many would agree that music is one of the most important factors in a show like Stranger Things, where scenes come to life through the soundtrack. One of the most notable songs that is played in several different episodes is ‘Should I Stay or Should I Go?’ by The Clash. Some of the other familiar bands that I heard while watching the show were New Order, Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen, and Modern English. However, the show also included many artists that I hadn’t heard of before, introducing me to a new variety of tracks. The show itself already has a very unique plot, containing supernatural elements while also providing realistic themes. Additionally, the songs chosen by its composers give the show a nostalgic feel that keeps you interested from the first note. The second season is set to be released next year, and it’s something that everyone should look out for.
