The Westside High School Marching Band qualify for the Area UIL competition, Tuesday, October 25. Our Westside band competed to qualify for the Area competition. They got a wonderful score of all 1’s, which is the highest score you can get in the following categories: tone quality, posture, and unity. Sophomore student Jeremiah Green says, “I was overjoyed to hear that we have advance to area and all of our hard work and long practices paid off.” The following Saturday, October 29 our Westside Band competed in 2016 Area E Marching band competition ranking 30th out of the 40 other competing schools. Sadly, our Westside Wolves Band will not be advancing to the UIL Region Band Competition, but they showed great showmanship.band2

Our Westside Choir is doing big things. On Saturday, October 22 they participated in the Region Audition at Morton Ranch High School. There were three students that successfully advanced to the Pre-Area and 2 students that qualified for the the Women’s Choir. These competitive auditions determine who is considered to be one of the best singers in the state for 2017 Texas All State Choir. The following students include:

Aamani Pillutla, 13th Chair Soprano, advances to Pre-Area

Sarah Haugland, 5th Chair Alto, advances to Pre-Area

Ben Williams, 11th Chair Tenor, advances to Pre-Area (also in the Wolf Band!)

Angela Consuel and Jayne Joseph qualified for the Women’s Choir

Ms. Doris, the Westside choir director, selected several wonderful students to preform in the Region Honor Choir on the same weekend. The following students are Suzanne Hommel, Johneika Clark, Mayza Ortiz, Kassady Rogers, Hunter Reynolds, Moises Fuenmayor, Justin Williams, and Sawyer Betts. These students will also preform at the Region Weekend Concert on November 12 at the Westbury Baptist Church, Houston at 4 pm. The concert is free and is open to the public.
